Abstract Panel Sculptures in Stone & Glass
|
|
In the 1980s, William Reimann began to take commissions in
stone, glass, and Plexiglas creating large-scale bas relief imagery for corporate and
private settings. Projects included major commissions for the Christian Scientists'
Main Complex in Boston, MA. ("A Light Unto My Path"), hotels, and banks.
The work displayed below should be viewed an extension of his abstract Plexiglas
sculptures, exploring sinuous organic forms which created a deceptively three dimensional
effect on these flat carved panels.
The preparatory drawings for these pieces were done by hand, with numerous overlay sketches
and corrections until the desired curves and density was achieved.

The Atlanta panels received wide attention and gave rise to a series of
related projects, working with architects and home builders. This series was
completed in collaboration with Boston's Jung Brannen Associates, for a private home in
Weston, Massachusetts.
