Sculpture in Plexiglas™ & SteelWill became interested in working with Plexiglas™ in graduate school. Over four decades, in increasingly large and complex sculptures, he has used this material to explore the interaction of surface, form and light.
His basic structure is a steel armature with elongated Plexiglas™ 'ribs,' each of which is tipped with a bar prism to increase the sculpture's play with available (natural) light. It should be noted that these sculptures were created without the benefit of progressive computer imaging. Every Plexiglas rib and bar prism was polished by hand in a multi-step scraping and sanding process. |
